The Flyer Carved is a long-distance touring saddle with a spring system and a central pressure relief cut-out, making it ideal for adventure cycling, commuting, and long-distance touring. It uses the same leather top as the B17, combining the comfort of leather with spring dampening and enhanced flexibility. The Flyer is one of our most popular classic models, handcrafted in our Smethwick, England factory, featuring tubular steel rivets and a black powder-coated chassis.

Care Instructions

Proper saddle care ensures its comfort and durability. Proofide is the only recommended treatment for leather saddles, designed to condition, preserve, and waterproof, keeping the leather supple. Regular use of Proofide will help the saddle adapt to your body while maintaining its appearance and support. New saddles should be treated at least once to assist "breaking in" and protect the leather from the elements.

Directions for use:
1. Never apply Proofide to a wet saddle.
2. Apply a small amount of Proofide to the leather surface. After it has fully absorbed and dried, polish thoroughly with a soft cloth to avoid staining clothes.
3. Apply Proofide to the underside of the saddle as well, leaving a protective layer against dirt and moisture.
Apply several times during the break-in period, then for periodic maintenance. Do not over-apply.

Once broken in, the saddle tension can be adjusted as needed: turn the nose nut clockwise, 90 degrees at a time, gradually adjusting to the desired tension (use a dedicated wrench or hex key).

FAQ

Which Brooks saddle is best for me?

Brooks leather saddles vary in width and design based on riding posture and bike type. For an upright 90-degree riding posture, wide sprung models are recommended; for a moderately angled 45-60 degree posture, medium-width touring/commuting models are suitable; the more aggressive the riding posture, the narrower the saddle should be.

Why do leather saddles need "breaking in"?

New leather, after tanning and factory shaping, is strong but stiff. "Breaking in" is the process of making the leather soft and conforming. Through riding, time, and proper care, the leather gradually molds to your unique anatomy, providing a comfortable ride akin to swaying in a hammock. However, be careful not to let the leather sag too low, as it could come into contact with metal components, causing damage, or even touching the seat post, which is extremely uncomfortable.

10-Year Extended Guarantee

Handcrafted by British Artisans

Brooks England saddles are entirely handcrafted in the UK. Subtle textures may appear on the leather surface due to the molding process; these are marks of craftsmanship, making each saddle unique. The saddles use traditional iron and copper materials, and oxidation is a normal phenomenon that adds to their vintage charm.
