Extended 10-year guarantee
Brooks' extended 10-year warranty on all our leather saddles is based on the quality and consistency of the materials and the excellent work of our craftsmen.
Handcrafted since 1866
For over 150 years, our workshop has been dedicated to crafting Brooks' iconic leather saddles.
Lasting comfort and breathability
Leather is a naturally breathable material that offers unique comfort. The leather top is suspended from the saddle rails, forming a hammock-like suspended, molded seat that provides tailored, long-lasting comfort.
Shapes over time
Over journey after journey, our leather naturally conforms to the rider's unique body shape, providing a more comfortable riding experience.
The B17 Narrow is a narrow racing saddle, originally launched in 1910. Designed for one-mile and half-mile races, this saddle was the choice of track riders in the 1960s. Like all Brooks leather saddles, the B17 Narrow is handcrafted at our factory in Smethwick, England, using vegetable-tanned leather that molds to the body and becomes more beautiful over time. This stylish and sleek bicycle seat is perfect for track bikes, urban fixed-gear bikes, and riders seeking a narrow bicycle saddle for freedom of movement.
Maintenance
Maintaining your saddle will ensure it becomes comfortable and durable. Proofide is the only substance that can be used to care for leather saddles. Specially formulated with unique ingredients, it conditions, preserves, and waterproofs, helping to keep the leather supple and maintaining its softness. With regular use, your saddle will adapt to your body and retain its beauty, comfort, and support. A new saddle should be treated at least once to aid in "breaking in." Treat and protect the saddle from natural elements. Never apply Proofide to a wet saddle. Apply a small amount of Proofide to the finished top surface of the leather, allowing it to penetrate until dry. Wipe thoroughly with a soft cloth to avoid any residual Proofide remaining on clothing. Also, apply Proofide to the underside of the saddle. This coating will protect against dirt and moisture. Proofide can be used multiple times during the "break-in" period. And regularly thereafter. Do not over-apply. After the break-in period, it is normal and appropriate to tension the saddle to maintain its shape and comfort. To tension the leather top, turn the nose bolt nut clockwise, 90° at a time, checking after each turn until the desired tension is achieved. You can use the tension wrench or an Allen key.
F.A.Q.
Which Brooks saddle is right for me?
Our leather saddles come in different shapes and styles, depending on the type of bicycle or riding position. For example, wider saddles with springs are ideal for an upright, 90-degree posture. Medium widths are generally used for touring or commuting when the rider's spine angle is between 45 and 60 degrees. In general, the more athletic the riding position, the narrower the saddle.
Why do I need to break in my leather saddle?
Due to the tanning process and the extensive treatment during the molding process at our factory, new leather is tough. This makes the fibers very strong, but also quite stiff. "Breaking in" is the process where the saddle leather becomes supple and more elastic. Time, effort, and care are key to keeping your leather saddle in optimal condition. Primarily through riding, the leather will conform to your body shape and become more flexible. Over time, the natural movement of the leather will act like a hammock when riding. But be careful to ensure the leather doesn't sag too low, as this could cause it to contact the metal structure and potentially lead to saddle failure, not to mention discomfort, as you might be sitting on the upper rails of some models or even the seatpost itself.
10-Year Warranty
Register your leather saddle on the Brooks website within 3 months of purchase to extend the standard 2-year warranty to a total of 10 years.
Handcrafted by British Artisans
Brooks England saddles are handcrafted in the UK. Minor cracks may appear on the leather surface during the pressing and molding process, and traces of handcrafting will also be left, making each one unique. At the same time, the saddles use traditional materials such as iron and copper, and minor oxidation of small parts is normal, adding to the vintage style.
